Every year SEMA, the massive and highly-respected aftermarket modification car show which takes the automotive world by storm, presents an award to a single vehicle as its ‘Hottest Car’. The award goes to the vehicle which creates the greatest buzz and press amongst both the attendees and other followers of the event. This year, the voting opened early for the award, and at this still young stage of tallying votes, the Challenger is sitting firmly in top 3, in a close battle between its two closest competitors. The Challenger, Camaro, and Mustang are taking their pony car battle seemingly everywhere these days, it would seem.
The fact that the Challenger has made the top-3 against those vehicles (and a stout field that also includes such cars as the Audi A4, the Subura Impreza WRX, and many others) is a testament to the vehicle’s growing popularity. Lagging in sales behind the Camaro and Mustang each month (but closing the sales gap with each month that passes) the Challenger just simply does not have the built-in fan base that its rivals does, but that is changing. With their announcement of multiple new Challenger models and features, such as the Viper powered Drag-Pak and the new 305HP Pentastar V6 engine, Dodge has done a fantastic job of ratcheting up the buzz for their outstanding performance car. Coupling these new features with the undeniable style that the Challenger has (style enough to put its competitors to shame), the Challenger has definitely increased its public visibility. Who knows, maybe the Challenger will even make a final push to claim victory from the grasp of its rivals (the race for the award is currently being won by the Camaro), and make a large claim for further supremacy down the road. Even if it doesn’t, making top-3 in voting for a convention which focuses on aftermarket modification of vehicles only promises Challenger drivers and fanatics (like myself) that the future will see a number of great new modification pieces being released for it from the best and brightest companies around the globe. With an Edelbrock E-Force supercharger the next big thing on the horizon for the Challenger, one can only wonder what else is in store for this fantastic vehicle.
