At a recent dealer meeting in Orlando, Chrysler handed out some information on the 2011 Challenger to their major dealership marketing and PR people. Somebody there, was able to take their brochure with them, and put it online for the world to see. Details are out now for the 2011 Dodge Challenger, and WOW does it look awesome. Obviously gunning directly for the Camaro and Mustang the info packets highlight the Challenger versus its two main competitors, and it stacks up very very strongly.
The Challenger power plants have been upgraded, including a 475 HP 6.4L HEMI 392 for the new SRT. The engine is an absolute monster and puts out NA 475 HP and 460 lbs Torque, putting it directly in line as a competitor to (and potential victor against) the Mustang Shelby GT 500. The refined and focused 5.7L V8 for the R/T model has been re-engineered some for increased performance, and it will put out a more than respectable 379HP and 410 lbs Torque. The new SRT-392 has a number of other gorgeous interior and exterior visual touches that will truly set it apart from every other vehicle on the road. The Challenger is already the best looking car, for my $, and this will only widen the gap between it and the rest of the pack.
Adding to the performance gains, Dodge has put a focus on the Challenger’s handling performance. The 2011 Challengers have an upgraded suspension and chassis support system for an improved ride with an immediate orientation put on racing and handling. By doing this, Dodge is even making it a point to directly acknowledge and work towards repairing the current Challenger’s biggest fault (which, when compared to the Camaro and Mustang, isn’t exactly disparate). In all, it seems as though Dodge has realized the potential they have with their quality product, and are making a very active and direct move to focus on tapping in to that potential. I love the stats on the new 2011 Challenger, and imagine that they’ll impress enough other people to really increase vehicle sales for the next model year.
